THE RANDWICK MEETING. PANTHEON BEATS RAPINE. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY. Oct. 10. The Australian Jockey Club's Spring Meeting was concluded yesterday in fine weather, when there was an attendance of 70,000 at Randwick. New Zealand representatives were not so numerous as in pre- I vious years. Battlement was always handy in the Waverlev Handicap. The New Zealand gelding -whs lying fifth at the four furlong post. He then went up, showed the way into the straight, and came on to win narrowly by half a length. Battlement's time of. 2m 59s established a new record for the course. While waiting at the starting post in the Chester Handicap, Air Lady became fractious and fell. The jockey, Paper, suffered shock and concussion. Neither Cawnpore nor Giggle showed up in this race. King Abbey established a good lead from the start in the Dowlinj? Steeplechase, but he lost his rider after the first round. Bright Light fell and Prince Arini did not finish, leaving only four horßes in the race. Weight proved too much for Mintorn, who led most of the way. Pay Day came away at the finish and won easily. Only four horses faced the Btarter for the Randwick Plate. Rapine was first away from Pantheon and Valamita. Spearfelt lost about 15 lengths at the start, but was close up to Valamita going along the back of the course, at which point Rapine led by a length from Pantheon who was a length ahead of Valamita all the way till entering the straight, where Pantheon took charco and the English-bred horse came on to win with three lengths to spare. The race was run at a fast pace, the lime being onlv a second outside the Australian record. The last mile wa? compassed in !m 30 3-ss. In the C'libborn Stakes Royal Tea was a couple of lengths behind the rest of the field most of the way. but Munro brought his mount through un opening at the straight, but was unable to beat Lady Constance. A protest for interference bv Loyal Tea against Lady Constance was dismissed. As on the previous day, Expense, in the Canonbury Stakes, jumped to the front from the rise of the barrier, but, was unable to maintain his position and finished fourth. DETAILS OF THE RACING. Pantheon took the lead from Rapine, where Spearfelt came up on the outside. Pantheon was equal to all demands, and drawing away, he ran home a winner three lengths in front of Rapine, who was separated by a similar distance from Spearfelt. Time, 3m 23,5. CLIBEORN STAKES.
