THAMES-TAIRUA ROAD.
fifty men to be employed. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Friday. Advice was received by Mr. T. W. Rhodes, M.P. for Thames, from the Hon. K. S. Williams, Minister of Public Works, that ho had arranged to place 50 tnen on the Thaines-Tairua Road formation. Mr. Rhodes stated that already there was a 6ft. bridle track connecting Tairua with Thames. The men will be employed on opening a vehicular road between the two points. The road will give access to some 30,000 acres of Crown lands suitable for grazing on the East Coast, and an outlet for a soldiers' settlement at Ilikuai will also be provided. The men are to be drawn from the Auckland unemployed, and they will be at work in about one week's time. This will make 125 men who have been placed by the department since the visit of the Minister to Auckland, 25 men having been put to work on road widening at Mercer and another 50 on the West field deviation. f
