AUCKLAND COMPETITIONS.
Highly diverting entertainment extending over a fortnight will be provided at tho Town Hall and Unity Hall during tho annual festival of the Auckland Competitions Society. This form of entertainment, which has become tho chief event of the year in towns ail over New Zealand, is popular not only for tho spirit of competition and rivalry introduced, but also for the remarkablo talont often revealed and tho fact that many items aro presented which,'for originality and finish, are comparable with any high-class professional turns. Entries have already been roceived from over 2000 competitors in all parts of the Dominion. Each evenifig tho finals of tho classes in music, literature, elocution and dancing will take place. Ono of tho principal features will be a grand choir contest, at \vL. 't many of tho church choirs in Auckland will take part. Of particular interest aits the tableaux vivants, character sketches and Shakespearean recital'!. The opening dato is next Thnrsdav.
