DOME OF EXHIBITION.
SHATTERED BY EXPLOSIVES. RAPID DEMOLITION PROJECT. [Br TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] DUNEDIN, Thursday. The crowning achitectural glory of t.he exhibition, the dome of (the festival hall, has been wrecked by an explosion. The purchasers, Messrs. Scott and Cooper, fonnd that to bring down the dome piecemeal would be an expensive, tedious and somewhat risky undertaking, involving the erection of scaffolding and the use of a lot of gear, so they resolved upon demolition by means of explosives. After removing some of the supports a stick of gelignite was put into each of those left and a fuse connection sufficed to dislodge the whole dome. The structure became detached bodily, and retaining its shape for a second or two in falling, it collapsed on what were the paths and lawns of the grand court. It was a quick and well-handled job and a thorough success, for nobody was hurt and the timber, thus rapidly delivered to a handy position, was not broken up nearly so badly as it might have been.
