OUTLET FOR WHITFORD.
Sir,—l crave space to briefly reply to your correspondent, R. T. Brightfield, who writes in your issue of the sth. inst. I have not had the pleasure of meeting this gentleman, although he discloses in his letter by the words, " bringing us close to factories," that he is a resident of Whitford. Certain it is that he is not a ratepayer, unless he writes under a sobriquet, for I have taken the trouble to peruse the county roll, and it knows him not. I am fully aware that Whitford has more than one outlet, but the fact remains that the Maungaroa Gorge, had as it is, is the most freqnented, and, therefore, serves as the main outlet from Whitford. If this were not so it is difficult to understand why reasonable people should deliberately choose the Maungaroa Gorge in preference to the other routes mentioned by your correspondent. I make bold to say that within a -short space of time, pressure of public opinion and necessity will see the new route and the new bridge over the Manngaroa Gorge an accomplished fact. Peter Ltddell. Beachlands.
