AVONDALE BOROUGH.
EXTENDING WATER SYSTEM. The Avondale Borough Council met on Wednesday evening, the Mayor, Mr. W. ,J. Tait, presiding. It was decided to apply to the Public Trustee for an additional £3500 for the extension of water reticulation in Avondale .South. The commissioner of Crown lands agreed to a request that the Avondale South Domain should bo vested in the council. It was decided to extend sewer reticulation in Elizabeth Street. Messrs. P. Wright and ,T. Ellis were appointed to represent the council on the Local Bodies' Association. Complaints were made that on various occasions the street lights were extinguished before midnight. It was decided to communicate with the Auckland Power Board. The New Lynn Town Board drew tho attention of (lie council to the necessity of providing a traffic inspector to control traffic in the vicinity of Whau Bridge. It, was suggested that joint action should bo taken by tho two local bodies. The suggestion will bo given effect to on Saturdays and Sundays. Complaints regarding tho Great North Road in the vicinity of Station Road worn received and it was decided to enmmeneo a " clean-up campaign." The Blockhouse Bay Football Club asked for a playing area on tho Avondalo South Domain. It was stated the club had collected £3O toward tho cost of the work, ft was decided that nothing could be done until the council becamo tho controlling body of the domain. It was resolved to ask the Government to expedite tho transfer of control, especially as a number of improvements wore necessary. The building inspector reported that during the previous three weeks 29 permits had been granted. At present there are 18 dwellings in course of erection. It was decided to arrange a special " clean-up " of the thickly populated part of the borough, P was decided to hold a special meeting oi) Monday evening ,to deal with the expenditure of all loan moneys.
