MR J. LOWTHIAN WILSON. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday. Mr. Joseph Lowthian Wilson, of Kaiapoi, died to-day, aged 80 years.' He had resided at Ivaiapoi for 63 years and un'til recently had been actively engaged in journalism. Born in Penrith, Cumberland, he arrived in Lyttelton in January, 1863. Deceased had been ailing for a considerable time. MR. E. E. FLETCHER. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN' CORRESPONDENT.] WANGANUI, Thursday. The death of Mr. Edward Exton Fletcher, a well-known farmer of Wangaehu, has removed a very old settler. Mr. Fletcher, who was 74 years of age, was born in Lincolnshire, England. He came to New Zealand in 1877, taking up land with his brother at South Karori. For several years he was engaged in contracting in i the Wairarapa before coming to Wanganui, where he took up land at Wangaehu. For many years ho was actively associated with various local bodies. MRS. A. E. MALFROY. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ROTORUA, Thursday. A very old resident, Mrs. A. E. Malfroy was found dead in her bed tjiis morning. She was apparently in her usual health yesterday, being active and bright. Mrs. Malfroy had lived in Rotorua for 40 years. Mr. Jean A!. C". Malfroy was appointed' resident engineer of Rotorua in 1886, the year of the great eruption. The Malfroy geysrers in the Government gardens were built by him and bear his name. He had made a great study of geyser action. He died in 1895.
