THEFT OF A RIFLE.
TAKEN FROM FRIEND'S ROOM. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN COR RESPONDENT J DUNEDIN, Wednesday. Harold Price, who pleaded guilty a ■week ago to'a charge of stealing a rifle valued at. £2, appeared at the City Police Court to-day for sentence. Chief-Detective Lewis said a friend had given the accused £5 in order to pay his board at the Y.M.C.A., but. he had used it for other purposes and had also taken the gun from his friend's room. The accused had not been guilty of any dishonesty before. Mr. J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., in admitting Price to probation for 12 months, said accused had been in custody for a week and had had a taste of what he would get if he was dishonest again. He was ordered to refund tha £5 lent him and also to pay the Y.M.C.A, the sum of £2 17a. fid for board owing.
