WITHDRAWAL FROM SERVICE.
NOTICE GIVEN TO COUNCIL.
TOE QUESTION OF PURCHASE
PRICE ASSESSED AT £ 29,675-
Nolice to the Auckland City Council that it would be required to take over the plant of the Royal Motor Bus Company under the provisions of tho Motor Omnibus Traffic Act, 1926, was served last evening when the company placed its plant under offer to tho council for £29,675. The company's intimation that it intends to withdraw from the passenger transport business is tho first the council has received.
The notice was contained in a letter from Messrs. Meredith, Paterson and Hubble, stating they had been instructed by the Royal Motor Bus Company, Limited, to give tho council noticj under section 15 nf the Motor Omnibus Traffic Act, 1926, that the company required tho council to purchase all the motor omnibuses and other property exclusively used by the company on its various service. Tho\ directors would be glad to discuss with the council the most suitable date for the taking over of this property as they desired to meet the convenience of the council as far as they reasonably could. They would also be pleased to discuss tho question of the price by agreement instead of resorting to the Court. Tho price asked by the company, after careful investigation of the figures, was £29,675. Tho notification was referred to tho Tramways Committee to report to tho council.
