SELWYN TERRACE.
NAME TO BE RETAINED
DECISION OF CITY COUNCIL
The name of Selwyn Terrace, Parnell, is not to be changed. An assurance was given by the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, at the meeting of the City Council last evening that the schedule of the special order by which it was proposed to change tho name to Sheldon Terrace would be adjusted so that the historic name would be preserved. The proposal to change the name of Selwyn Terrace was adopted by the council two weeks ago in connection with a plan to alter the names of a number of streets which were duplicated in other parts of the city or suburbs. There was at once a strong protest, headed by Mr. J. H. Upton, against depriving Sehvvn Terrace of the name of the noted Bishop Sehfyn, who was intimately connected with that part of Auckland during his residence here.
When the question of retaining this name was raised by Mr. ,T. Robertson at the meeting of the council last evening, the Mayor said he thought the council had made a serious slip when it agreed to change this name. Tie promised that the matter would be adjusted before tho special order came up for confirmation.
