OBITUARY.
MR. ALEXANDER S. MACDONALD. The death occurred on Wednesday, at his residences 12, Oliver Street, Remuera, of Mr. Alexander S. Macdonald, after n brief illness. Mr. Macdonald was born at Broch-y-Eerry, Scotland, in 1860, and went to Australia at the age of 18 years. After spending some years in Melbourne and other Australian centres, he arrived 23 years ago in Auckland, where he had since continuously resided. For' over 20 years Mr. Macdonald was the accountant of the Auckland Sundky School Union, which position h<B held at the time of his death. He ha,d always been deeply interested in Sunday School work, and was superintendent of the Knox Presbyterian Sunday School for over 10 years. More recently ho acted as superintendent of the Somervell Presbyterian Sunday School, Remuera. For the past 15 years he held the position of hon. treasurer to the Auckland Auxiliary of the British and Foreign Bible Society. His faithful services in this capacity were recognised by the parent society, London, in 1918, when ha was elected an, honorary life , governor of the society. ~ Mr. Macdonald leaves a family of four —Miss Macdonald, Mr. Leslie and Mr. Norman Macdonald, of NukuHM North Bay of Plenty, "and Dr. Eric Macdonald, of Auckland, Mrs. Macdonald, predeceased him over two years ago. Deceased arrived in New Zealand from Scotland 49 years ago, and settled at Feilding. Ho war, a contractor,, bridgfc builder, and in partnership with Mr. A. Matthews, formerly vicar of Suva and administrator of the diocese of Polynesia, from; which position he retired two years ago on pension; He was previously , stationed at Bulls, Christchurch afld "Queenstown and was at one time science master at Christ's College. Ho is survived by four daughters and two sons.
