FOOTBALL MATCH SCENE.
A REFEREE MOBBED. FELLED TO THE GROUND. At the conclusion of the football match at tho Adelaide Oval on August 14 between Sturt and West Adelaide a number of disgruntled spectators rushed towards the umpire, Mr. F. 8. Saxby, who, in a moment, was surrounded by a howling mob. Tho police by that time had reached the centre of jibe ground and ondeavoured to escort him fi'om tho arena. As one individual made a blow at Mr. Saxby, he was promptly driven awa*y, but a second attacker succeeded in landing a heavy blow, felling him to tho ground. Blows were showered from all directions and the small squad of policemen received, rough handling as the crowd swirled in its endeavour to reach tho umpire. One woman received a blow which felled her to tho ground and she was trampled on before she was lifted to safety. The umpire collapsed and he had to bo carried all the way in a state of scmi-conscious-ness.
