The fact that no potatoes from New Zealand may now be landed in Victoria, as a result of the rejection of a consignment on the ground that the tubers were alleged to be affected with powdery scab, is viewed with amazement in produce circles in Sydney, says the Daily Telegraph. It is stated officially that New Zealand shipments of potatoes arriving in Sydney are not only of good quality and splendidly graded but free from diseaso except for traces of rhicotonia. The latter is a form of scab common to potatoes the world over. Officers have inspected all the potatoes which have arrived and as a further procaution samples have been sent to the State assistant biologist for microscopic examination. They were pronounced free from disease. A representative of the Victorian Department of Agriculture has been sent to the border to prevent New Zealand potatoes from crossing from New South Wales to Victoria. CALFSKINS MARKET.
