ADULTERATED MILK.
NEARLY ONE-THIRD WATER. "AN ATROCIOUS AMOUNT." FINE OF THIRTY POUNDS. "This is an atrocious amount of water. It is nearly one-third," said Mr; J. W. Poynton, S.M., in the. Police Court yesterday, when' Albert J. Willis was charged with selling milk containing 27 per cent, of added water, and with selling milk con- j taining less than 8.5 per cent, of milk solids other than milk fats. Accused said he knew nothing about' the matter until after the milk was sold. The magistrate said the offence was serious, as the milk mfght be given to infants. A fine of £3O, with costs, was imposed on the first charge, accused being convicted and discharged on the second. Similar charges were preferred against Robinson Brothers, of Green Lane Road, whose milk was alleged to contain il per cent, of added water. A fine of £2O was imposed on the first charge, and,accused were ordered to pay costs on the second.
