HAWKE'S BAY FOOTBALLERS. ACTION BY RUGBY UNION. [by telegram.-.-press association.] NAPIER, Friday. Hawke's Bay is up in arms concerning serious allegations made in a certain section of tho Wellington press against Hawke's Bay players in the recent Ranfurly Shield match against Wellington. So as to afford some protection to their players the Hawke's Bay Rugby Union took the matter up this evening and was loud in its condemnation of the allegations. Mr. N. A. Mackenzie, Hawke's Bay, selector, Went so far as to suggest that the union should cancel tho return match to be played in Wellington on October 2, as it was evident the Hawke's Bay team would be subject to much abuse if it took the field, -However, the decision of the union was to appoint Messrs. J. j W. Norrie. J. W. Callaghan and W. i Anderson (secretary), as a special com* j rnittee to draw up a reply to the various j newspaper articles derogatory to Hawke s ] Bay representative football. Decision as to whether the return match with Wellington will be played was also left to that committee.
