LONDON BY NIGHT.
ATHLETES IN TRAINING. CITY'S SMOOTH ROADWAYS. LONDON, Aug. .18. Harriers and footballers employed in London business houses have discovered that the smooth roadways of the city's main thoroughfares, which are silent and deserted after the day's business, form excellent training tracks. Scores of lightly-clad athletes regularly run in the evenings near the Bank of England and Cornhill. Soccer players have discovered that running upstairs is an admirable remedy for stiffness, and twice a week they speedily run three times- up the 311 spiral steps of the monument commemorating the Great Fire.
