DAVIS CUP CONTEST.

1 FRANCE VERSUS JAPAN. WINNERS MEET AMERICA. (Received 8.35 p.m.) A. and N.Z.-fteuter. NEW YGBE. Aug. 25. Play in the Davis Cup tib, France v. Japan, will be commenced to-morrow. Tennis writers generally agree that France should have little difficulty ineliminating Japan. The teams nominated are:—Japan: Harada and Tawara. France: Lacoste, Cochet and Brugnon. , > In the opening singles Cachet will meet Tawara and Lacoste Will meet Harada. Should the final challenge round be fought out between Franco and America it would arouse very kev?n. interest, as their teams are regarded aa being almost equally matched. The American selection committee is faced by a difficult task and by the necessity for again choosing between Johnston and Richards to play in the singles. Tilden and Johnston beat Borotra and Lacoste in 1925 and have played a splendid game since, whereas Richards lost prestige in Europe this season. This he has since recovered, however, in America. It is probable tha,t the United States team will comprise Tilden and Johnston for the singles and Richards and Williams for the doubles.
