CIVIL WAR IN CHINA.
SUCCESS OF GANTONESE, A CONFUSED SITUATION. (Received 3.5 D.m.i . ■ Beuter. PEEING. Aug. 25. It is reported that Cantonese forces have captured Yochow and have advanced considerably toward Wuchang. Anxiety has been aroused by the reported capture of Yochow. If it be true the position of Hankow is menaced. The genera! confusion of the situation in China has been increased by the action of the Chinese authorities at Tsingtao in arbitrarily taxing foreign imports, which have already paid customs duty. So far these taxes hare been confined to wines, spirits and beer. Importers have lodged a strong protest with the British, American and Japanese Consuls against this illegal procedure. The protest has been forwarded to the legations.
