COMPETITIONS SOCIETY.

It is evident that the forthcoming musical, elocutionary and dancing competitions, which take place in October next, will be as popular as the big festivals which "are an" annual event in most of the southern cities. The most pleasing feature is the activity displayed by the local church choirs, o? which no less than nine have signified their intention to compete in the grand choral contest, while it is understood that at least three choirs will come from outside the city. The society announces the appointment of the following adjudicators:—Vocal and instrumental music, Mr. Charles W. Kerry, who succeeded Mr. Maughan Barnett as organist and choirmaster of St. John's, Wellington. (Mr. Kerry is a lecturer on music at Victoria University College and is conductor of the Society of Musicians' Orchestra) : elocution, Mr.. J. Culford Bei!, of Wellington; national dancing, Mr. Mackenzie Forbes, of Wanganui; fancy danciag, Mr. J. linowsley, of Wellington.
