SEVEN DAYS' IMPRISONMENT. i " It would not have occurred if I liad not been drunk," said David Crammond, aged 29, when charged in the Police Court yesterday with stealing a travelling rug, valued at £4. Sub-Inspector Levin said accused was remanded last week to enable inquiries to be made regarding the ownership of the rug, but the inquiries had proved unsuccessful, Nothing was previously known against accused. He was arrested for drunkenness and had the rug, a new one, in his possession. The magistrate, Mr. Poynton, passed sentence of seven days' imprisonment. The sub-inspector said McDonald was in the bar cf an hotel when accused rushed him. catching him by the arms and pushing him against the bar counter. Accused was pulled away before any injury was done. " You had better keep out of hotel bars in future," said the magistrate in imposing a fine of £2, in default seven days' imprisonment. Frank Baucke. alias Franz Eugene Johnn Baucke, appeared on remand on a charge of obtaining from the Stanley Stamp Company. Wellington, oa February 9, stamps to the value of £33 8s lid, bv falsely representing that he was Fred Gleeson and that his address was M&tangi, Waikato. On the application of Chief-Detective Cummings accused was remanded to appear at Cambridge on September 2.
