WEW ZEALAND TOURNEY. CHAMPIONSHIPS AT MIRAMAR. DETAILS OF THE PROGRAMME. The programme of the New Zealand golf championship meeting to bo held the Miiraiiaar links. Wellington, from Friday, October 15, to Saturday, October 23, comprises an attractive list of events. Although not graced with delightful natural surroundings, such as are to be found on many New Zealand courses, the Miramar links have many fine' playing qualities. They lie almost alongside the open sea. Several improvements have recently been effected, and the links have the advantage of never becoming waterlogged. The sandy nature of the soil offers admirable drainage. The only thing that is likely to worry competitors is the wind. When it blows hard players on the exposed links are at its mercy. Tha programme is as follows: Friday, October 15.—Morning, first round of open championship and concurrently first qualifying round of amateur and professional championships; afternoon, the second rounds. Saturday. October 10.— Morning. third round of open championship and concurrently third qualifying round of amateur and professional championships: afternoon, the fourth rounds, and the interclub teams' match for the O'Rorko Vase. Monday, October 18.—Morning and afternoon, first rounds of 36 holes of the amateur and professional championships, also first bogey handicap. Tuesday. October 19. —Morning and afternoon, semi-final of professional championship and second round of amateur championship, also first stroke handicap. Wednesday, October 20.—Morning and afternoon, professionals' handicap match, of 36' holes, stroke play; third round of amateur championship and second bogey handicap for amateurs Thursday, October 21.—Second stroke handicap for amateurs, and driving competition. Friday. October 22. —Morning and afternoon, final of professional championship, semi-final of amateur championship, also four-ball best-ball handicap for amateurs. Saturday, October 23.—Final of amateur championship. .The holder of the open championship is E. M. Macfarlane, of Christchurch Golf Club. T. H. Horton, of Masterton Club, is the holder of the amateur championship, and E. J. Moss, attached to the Auckland Golf Club, is the professional champion. The Earl Jellicoe Cup, presented to the player returning the best single round in the qualifying rounds of the open championsip, is held by E. M. Macfarlane. The O'Rorke Vaso is held jointly by the Christchurch Golf Club and the Wellington Golf Club. Entries will closo on Friday, October 1. FRANKLIN CHAMPIONSHIP. LADIES' EVENT ON SATURDAY. The Franklin ladies' golf championship will be played on Saturday on the Waiuku Golf Club's course at Waiuku, The entries total 31, and include Miss Wily, of Pukekohe. a former holder. The present champion, Mrs. Treanor, of Pukekohe, is not playing. In the morning a stroke round will be played on handicap and a second stroke handicap in the afternoon. A handicap match between ladies and men was played by members of tho Maungaliiekie Golf Clubs on the One Tree Hill links yesterday, and resulted in a win for the ladies by eight matches to five,, two matches finishing all square. A putting competition was won by Miss McCabe and G. L. Taylor. A return match will be played on September 16. THE GLENDOWIE CLUB. The final of the championship of the senior division of the Hamilton Ladies' Golf Club was played on Wednesday. Mrs. A. Coyne defeating Mrs. R. G. Guy, 5 and 4. In the semi-finals of the Tauranga Golf Club's senior championship Pott beat Berrill one up and Goulding beat Matheson two up. In the junior championship J. Crowley beat J. Guinness one up and D. V. Anderson beat Beckett 5 and 4.
