Macintosh Ellis, Director of Forestry, who has for some time been visiting the many points in this Auckland and Rotorua districts at which the operations of the State Forest Service are being carried out, left for Wellington by train last evening. Mr. Christopher Smith, conductor of the Auckland Municipal Band, was attacked by sudden illness in the city vesterday morning and was later admitted to the Auckland Hospital. His condition improved and he was able to return home late in tho day. Mr. J. Merlo Davis, general secretary of the Institute of Pacific Relations, will arrive from Wellington this morning. He will be accompanied by Professor J, B. Condliffo, of Canterbury College, who is' the representative of the institute in New Zealand. Mr. Davis will leave for Honolulu by tho Niagara next Tuesday. Tho Hon C. P. Skorrett, Chief Justice, will arrive in Auckland next week on a fortnight's visit. He will preside at n sitting of tho Supreme Court on Tuesday, replacing Mr. Justice Stringer, who will bo at Hamilton. This will bo the first visit made to Auckland by the Chief Justice since his appointment, last February.
