September 25. 27—Avondale Jockey Club (at Ellerslie). _ . September 30. October 1- Geraldine Racing Ciub. NOTES BY PHAETON. Mr. W. P. Russell baa been appointed JiamlicaDPer to the Thames Jockev Club. Goshawk, who forms ore of the teum to bo taken to Svdney by Mr. J. M. Cameron, is nil Australian-bred gelding bv Magpie from the Bobadil mare Fadelma. Nigger Minstrel would appear to be training on satisfactorily, for he figures among the entrants for the Flvinrr Handicap and Eclipse Stakes, to be run at the Wsnganu; spring meeting next month. The newh-laid-down track on tlie Cambridge Trotting Club's ground will be available for use early this season, and it wi!! be first used on the occasion of the Waikato Hunt, meeting, which takes place on October 25. The Waikato Hunt is in the field witti a capital programme for its annual race meeting, fixed for October 2«. The sum of £2560 is offered for competition in prizemoney. the Hunt Cup carrying the fine stake of £6OO. Bravo Waikato! Tho New Zealand Oaka winner Mandane, ■who had to be eased up in the early autumn owing to some ailment havinst come against her, has evidently come round all right, for she is nominated for the leading handicaps trt be decided at the Wanganui spring meeting. T® Monanui is stated to be shaping attractively in his work at New Plymouth, and, as the son of Potoa figures among the entrants for the two leading handicap events ♦o be decided at the Wanganui spring meeting. he is apparently to be called upon for an earlv race. In regard to the race meeting proposed to bo held for the benefit of the Morrinsvillo Racing Club an application for September IS for tho same was not sanctioned. It is now stated that efforts will be made to secure a date in tho month of January for tho holding of the meeting. The attractive manner in which Lysander is shaping in his training work at Wanganui serves to invest his prospects of earning early distinction at three years old with much promise. In a recent gallon over six furlongs with Mask he came homo in front and was credited with running on well at the finish. Kiosk is included anions the three-year-olds credited with training on in good stylo at Wanganui. With engagements in tho Wangamii Guineas and Eclipse Stakes the bay son of Tea Tray will probably have an opportunity of earning distinction in a brace of important events set down for decision early nest month. Tho Liinond—Amyrin colt Resinous, who vras only called upon to fulfil one engagement at two years old, is evidently viewed in a promising light, for ho has been accorded a nomination for the New Zealand Eclipse Stakes, in which race ha •will have " to contend against some brilliant performers under weicht-for-age conditions. From the fact of Mr.. J. M. Cameron decidin" to give The Hawk an opportunity to further extend his winning record in Australia it would appear safe to conclude that the Martian gelding ' has given some encouragement in his training at Hastings that he will bo eciual to reproducing his best form when he comes to again measure strides with the cracks of the Australian turf. Tho Hawk was foaied in 1918, so that ho is now eight years old. Paganelli. who figures among the entrants for the Debutante Stakes at Wanganui. is a' colt by Lord Quex from Ringdove. The interesting storv .connected with Ringdove is,that, in the year prior to her producing Paganelli she was Given away under the impression probably that 3he had outlived her usefulness as a stud matron. The colt she threw to Lord Quex in 1924 is known as Pagranelli. and he is voted a really nicelocking youngster. The Debutante Stakes, which is the initial two-year-old race of the season in New Zealand, and which is set down for decision at Wanganui on September 11. has attracted en entry of 24. What will be viewed as an interesting incident in connection with tho nominations is that several sires will be represented by the first of their progeny. Leighton lias four representatives and Paladin. and Callaghan are the other sires whose progeny will carry silk for the first t time. In England they are talking about the possibility of a match being arranged between Coronach, tho winner of the Derby, and Bolttrio. England's beat stayer of the present day and the horso for whom Sir V John Rutherford refused £IOO,OOO. Overtures have been made in certain Quarters for a match, but there is little prospect of that taking place (says " Ajax" in the Evening Newo). Matchos were very popular -with tho Corinthian sportsmen of the early Victorian era. but owners are no. longer enthusiastic. Two well-known Christchurch sportsmen, not. unknown in connection with the lightharness sport havo been snaking inquiries as to the price set on the Auckland jumper Kawini (says tho Southland Times). If they should succeed in making a deal the ( ' horse, it is stated by the writer in the Southland journal, will be sent to Southland to be trained and raced from Ihe establishment of a trainer who has been in winning vein during the past two or three seasons with steenlechasera. Mr. H. Swaffield, who owns Kawini, is not, from what I can learn, likely to sell tho bay gelding. THE TURF IN ENGLAND. YORK MEETING. xteuter. LONDON. Aug. 25. At the York meeting to-day the following Wan the result of the leading event: THE EBOB HANDICAP. Of £1200: 1J miles. PONS ASINORUM, S. Joel's br h. 4yrs, by Tredennis—Bridge at Midnight . 1 SERADELLA. 4vrs .... -> DROPTTIN. oyrs . . . . 3 Fifteen started. Pons Asinoruni won by three-Quarters of a length. WAIPA RACING CLUE. The annual balance-sheet of the Waipa Racing Club shows that, owing to the success which marked its annual race meeting, the position of the club has been improved to the extent of £759. The sum of £738 was expended in improvements to the official stand, and the bank overdraft has been reduced by £241. RACING TAXATION. PAKURANGA HUNT MEETING.
