When the total was 25 the Australian captain turned one from Bridges to leg and was well taken by Longrigg. His partnership with Ryder had produced 55 runs in 70 minutes. Ryder hit six fours. The Australians' innings was declared closed for 229 after half an hour's plav. Everett, and Hendry opened Australia's second attack, but Hendry could not find his lengtli and was not dangerous,.
