FANCY DRESS BALL.

A very pleasing entertainment took place in the Whitford Hall last week, where a fancy dress ball, representing children of all nations, was held. Prizes were awarded as follows: —Tahiti, admirably carried out by Master Jack Booker and Miss Betty Malvihill; "Uncle Sam,'' represented by Master Bob Hattaway, and Cook Islander and Chinese girl represented by Miss Alice Wade and Miss Sona Wade respectively. The evening commenced by the singing of the National Anthem, the grand march following to the strains of Rule Britannia, the Marseillaise and other national anthems. The march then gave place to the old English country dance, Sir Roger de Coverley, four sets of sixteen being formed, thus showing off the dresses to advantage. The funds raised were donated toward a Christmas tree carnival to be held later in the year.
