NEW ZEALAND APPLES.

THE PORT HQBART SHIPMENT. POOR MARKET AT LIVERPOOL. ' [FROM pun OWN COIIRESPONftI'KT.] ' LONDON, July !!. ' It is very disappointing that the shipment of apples by the Port Hobart should have ccmo upon the Liverpool' market at rather a bad time. Tho Port Hobart was sent away .from Nelson with a certain amount of ceremony, for it. wbs tho first occasion on which a vessel had taken a comolete cargo of apples—she carried 126,000 cases,,which included more loaded at Wellington—and the first occasion on which there had been a direct shipment from Nelson to Liverpool ; The voyage' was a record one, for this motor ship covered the journey in 34 days, and thus further justified the trend towards the use of internal combustion engines. , .The demand' for the New .Zealand apples can, only be described as fair, and the prices of those sold so far are not encouraging. There has been a plentiful supply of Tasmanian apples in Liverpool, and in . addition a shipment of damaged fruit by the Port Adelaide has had a depressing effect upon the market generally. The Port Adelaide, apples are reportd to be affected with brown heart. Sales of the New Zealand apples have been made at the following prices: Sturmers, mainly second grade, 6s 3d to 0s; Statesman and Rokewoods, 7s to 9s 6d} Dougherty, 7s 9d to 10s; Delicious, 7s 6d to 9a 9d; and Jonathans, 8s 7d to 10s 6d.
