CHARGE OF ASSAULT.

" GOT WHAT HE DESERVED." HUSBAND'S UNEXPECTED RETURN .* " He got what, he deserved," said Mr. J; W. Poynton, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday when John McNair, bus-driver, aged 30 (Mr. Matthews) was charged with assaulting Percy Robinson. Robinson said that accused went to his house in the evening when he was sup<-. •posed to be'at Helensville. However, he had not. gone to Helensville, but- had doiibled back,.and at 6.45 p.m. stood the verandah of his house listening ; to. conversation"; going on inside. Accused and'witness' wife came to the d.oor and witness- asked McNair what he was doing there. Accused struck at witness,; hitting him on the shoulder, and his wife caught hold of him and held'him. ' Accused .then attempted him again. Accused*'said ho.. had w ; known Mrs. Robinson, for 18 months', and had .been keeping company with her. He . had visited the house twice on Robinson's., invitation. . _ . , Mr. Matthews said' the trouble was that accused had 'been too friendly with Robinson's .wife and the aggrieved husband had taken'the law into his own 'hands. On July 3 Robinson had been that he would be bound over to keep the peace if he did not moderate .his attitude. ' ' .. : The magistrate said accused was trespassing. on another man's preserves and had got what he deserved. Apparently ,he; had struck the blow.
