OBITUARY.
MR. WILLIAM C. MACKLOW. A highly-esteemed resident of Auckland, Mr. William Charles Macklow, died yesterday at his residence, 18, Dom.eti Avenue,' Epsom. Mr. Mn,cklow was for long associated with the timber trade in Auckland. He arrived in New; Zealand from England in 1864 with .his two brothers, Messrs. W. J. and Thoiiias Macklcw, in the ship Eagle Speed, and commenced farming at Mahurangi. Having a large quantity of timber on their land and not finding a suitable market for it, the three brothers started a sawmill at Mechanics' Bpy in 1888. The business prospered, timber was brought to the sawmill in the brothers' own scows and considerable additions were made to the mill and its machinery. The funeral will take place to-morrow afternoon. MISS ANNA DUDLEY. Miss Anna Dudley, whose death occurred on Thursday, was a daughter of the late Venerable Archdeacon B. T. Dudley, one time vicar of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and grand-daughter of Archdeacon B. W. Dudley, of Rangiora, Canterbury. Both her father and grandfather arrived in New Zealand in the ship Cressy in 1850 with the Canterbury "pilgrims." In 1857 her father was called to the Melanesian Mission by Bishop Selwvn and was ordained in that mission in 1861 by its first bishop, John Coleridge Patteson. Archdeacon Dudley latof acted as secretary to Bishop Selwyn. MR. H. A. MORTY. [BY TELEGRAPH.—- OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 WHANGAREI. Friday. The death has occurred at Fidrburns, near Kaitaia, of Mr. H. A. Morty, formerly a well-known resident of Whangarei. The decease'" was born in Kent, England, and arrived in New Zealand 60 years ago as a lad of 12. He engaged in farming at Parua Bay and entered public life as a member of the Road Board in that district. Subsequently he became a member of the Whangarei County Council. He was also chairman of both the Hospital and Harbour Boards. The deceased is surviveij by a widow and ten children.
