AUSTRALIAN FORESTS.
INCREASE IN REVENUES. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY. July 27, A summary of the work of the Forestry Commission shows that since its establishment in 1916 the forest revenues have progressively increased from £67 5 273 to £209,733 in 1924-25. The Forest Act provides that half the revenue obtained from forests shall be earmarked and set aside for re-expenditure on them.
Under this provision it has been possible in the past five years to expend upon forests nearly £BO,OOO a year and at the same time to make the administration a self-contained one without cost to the Government.
The commission was able to hand back not only the amount voted annually, but a surplus over that amount aveiagiiJf, about £30,000 a year.
