NEW CRICKET COACH.
ENGAGEMENT OF BOWLEY.
THE APPOINTMENT CONFIRMED. ARRIVAL IN fTHREE MONTHS. On the recommendation of Lord Hawke, Mr. A. E. R. Gilligan, captain of the Sussex eleven, and Mr. H. D. Swan, representative in England of the New Zealand Cricket Council, the appointment of E. H. Bowley, of Sussex, as playercoach in Auckland, was approved last evening by the executive of the Auckland Cricket Association. Members of the executive were unanimously in favour of the appointment, Bowley being considered to be admirably qualified for the post. It was resolv< d to notify Lord Hawke that the association accepted Bowley in the terms of iis offer, with appreciation of Lord Hawke's valuable services. Bowley will receive a salary of £SOO a year for three years, and will pay his ow-n expenses. It is understood he will leave England on (September 24, arriving in New Zealand on October 30. Details of his imposing record in English cricket were publisheu in the Herald last Monday.
The Auckland University College Cricket Club« has decided to donate £lO a year for three years as a contribution toward the coach fund.
