BRIDGES IN THE NORTH.
WORK OF REPLACEMENT. Bridges damaged er destroyed during the devastating floods in the North Auckland district in April, 1924, have been, or will, be replaced shortly by modern concrete structures. One of the most important means of access to the North, the Maungakura Bridge over the Hoteo River, is now open to traffic and is proving a boon to travellers, who prefer the easier grades of l;hi main west coast road. This bridge, which is in the Rodney County, is approximately 230 ft, long and cost £6420, of which sum £4280 was a Government subsidy. It is a great improvement on its wooden predecessor. The substantial concrete bridge over the Hoteo River at Wayby, on the east coast road, is now well on the way to completion, and is expected to be open for traffic very soon. The approximate cost of £6700 is also partly covered by a Government subsidy. Good progress is also being made with the reconstruction of two smaller bridges at Puhoi.
