FIRE-FIGHTING METHODS.
INSTRUCTION IN SCHOOLS. RECOMMENDATION OF MINISTER. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WANGANUL Monday. A letter approving the suggestion that instruction in methods of dealing with fires in dwellings and public buildings be given to school children has been received by the Wanganui Fire Board from the Minister of Education. The Minister says he will have pleasure in recommending to teachers the advisability of children being taught fire drill in civic classes at the schools.
The suggestion originated with Mr. J. Williams, superintendent of the Wanganui Fire Brigade, who has attended the primary schools in Wanganui and given addresses to teachers and pupils upon the methods of combating "fire and the correct procedure in evacuating burning buildings.
