OCCULT PRACTICES.
Sir, —I would be glad if you could find space to allow the Spiritualists of New Zealand to express their thanks and appreciation to the police authorities in connection with the prosecution reported under the above .heading, and, in order that we may acquaint the public generally, that neither the defendant, nor the church which he is reported to represent, is, in any way, connected with the Staterecognised Spiritualist Church of New Zealand functioning under the Spiritualist Church of New Zealand Act, 1924, the members of which have steadily set their faces against fortune-telling, and every form of charlatanism, which has, in the past, brought the movement into disrepute. In support of this statement I would like to quote By-law No. 13, made in accordance with powers conferred on us under the said .Act, and which reads as follows: —"The Church shall, with a view of eliminating all objectionable practices carried on under the name of Spiritualism, co-operate with the authorities, wherever practicable, in protecting the public from unscrupulous, fraudulent and incompetent persons professing to have psychic powers or gifts." Chas. J. Champnkss. Ex-president, Nat. Executive Spiritu'alist Church of N.Z.
