BOWLING.
CARNIVAL AT SUVA. VISITING RINKS COMPETE. [from our own correspondent.] SUVA. July If?. The Suva Bowling Carnival concluded on Thursday, just in time for a number of the visiting bowleg to catch the Aorangi for Auckland and Sydney. The pennant was won by the South Australians, who, by the way. brought a team of 13, thus defying superstition. Interest then centred in the open rink competition, in which 14 teams competed, including representatives from New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, New Zealand, Suva and Bit (in Northern Viti Levu). After a strenuous fight tne final was left to a Victorian team, viz.:—J. Dunham, W. Cant, \V. Leslie, F. Dunham (skip); and a Suva team comprising A. Gray W. Spiers, W. Caldwell, J. H. Millett (skip). Play was five all at the fifth head, but Suva steadily drew away , and led by 18 to .12 at the secoml-to-last head. The visiting skip cleverly reduced the lead at the last head by scoring two, and the game ended: Suva. 18: Victoria, 14.
On Saturday Mr. Royal, of Victoria, offered valuable trophies for a pairs competition. and a progressive pair tournament was played with 30 entrants. The winning skip was the donor, who had to play off with D. Scott ( of Dunedin. Mr. Royal donated his prize to the club. Many of the bowlers are remaining for a mouth and are already sight-seeing by water or'by car. All say they are hav ing a spleudid time. The weather has been perfect.
