COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS. OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES. (Received 5.5 p.m.) Reuter. LONDON. July 24. In the county cricket championships Middlesex in their first innings against Notts scored 196 runs (Hearne 72), and in their second 222 (Bruce 71, Mann 52). Staples took five wickets for 60. Notts in their first innings made 223 (Carr 98), and in their second 120. Hearne took five wickets for 16. Middlesex won by 75 runs.
Surrey in their first innings against Sussex made 112 (Fender, not out, 61). A. E. Gilligan took five wickets for 54. The second innings yielded 375 (Ducat 61, Holmes 69). Sussex in their first innings made 399 (Duleep Sinhji 76, Wensley 67, Cook 103). The match was drawn Yorkshire in their first innings against Hampshire scored 237 (Leyland 118), and m their second 251 for three wickets, declared (Holmes 108, Oldroyd 109). Hampshire in their first venture made 174 (Daniell 78). Smith took four wickets for 48 and Rhodes four for 15. The second innings' score was 151 . for two wickets (Newman, not out, 58). The match was drawn. Somerset in their first innings against Lancashire compiled 255 (Earle 54). McDonald took five wickets for 89. The second innings produced 129. R. Tyldesley took four wickets for 25, and Watson four for 19. Lancashire in their first innings scored 392. E. Tyldesley made 126, thus making centuries in seven consecutive matches. Makepeace scored 77 and Iddon 55. Lancashire won by an innings and eight runs. Batting for Kent against Leicester Woolley made 106. Freeman took five wickets for 41. Kent won. Bowiifig for Worcester against Gloucester Root took seven wickets for 92. For Gloucester Mills took five wickets for 107. The match was drawn. Batting for Warwick against Northants Quaife made 107. Partridge took five wickets for 73. For Northants Clark took five for 74. Warwick won. Playing for Essex against Glamorgan Russell made 103 not out. Nicols took five wickets for 89 and Hipkin five for 55 for Glamorgan. Mercer took six for 51. Essex won. Rain interfered with play.
