BUILDINGS IN BRICK AREA. [iJY TELEGEAPK.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] MOHRLXSVILLE, Saturday. The Motrins villa "Boron gh Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. C. N. Gum aiiftr, presiding. Two applications for kerb sick pumps, one in Canada Street and one in Studholme, were granted. Four building permits were granted. It- was decided to take action against certain property owners in the inner area, who have not connected with the sewerage system. The- borough engineer was instructed tu prepare an estimate of the cost of improvements in Park Street. In regard to a request for-a permit to erect a building iji wood- in-the'brick area, the borough solicitors wrote:—"We think it is clear that the council cannot grant the permission requested, the land being within the brick area. The council js bound by its own by-laws unless the right to grant such permission is specifically reserved in the by-laws themselves. If the council granted such permission in this case, notwithstanding its by-laws, we think it is clear that the applicant Would stil\ be liable to prosecution at any time, and to the various penalties provided." It was decided not to grant the application. Notification was received that the applications of the various local bodies for the apportionment of the heavy traffic license - fee would be considered at Hamilton on August 4.
