HERD-TESTING MOVEMENT.
GREAT AID TO INDUSTRY. TRIBUTES TO ASSOCIATION. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] HAMILTON, Wedrfesday. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Co-operative Herd-testing Association was held to-day, Mr. Dynes Fulton presided over an attendance of 20 group delegates. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. ' Congratulations on the work done by the association were extended by Mr. W. Goodfellow, managing director of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd. He said he had visited most of the dairying countries in the world and he could say that the New Zealand organisation was the finest and greatest herdtesting association in the world. There were three esseutials required to promote the future welfare of the dairying industry in New Zealand. These were the extension of the herd-testing system., cheaper fertilisers and the introduction of table mortgages. Mr. Goodfellow said dairying conditions in South Auckland were ideal, and in his opinion the area was the finest dairying district in the world. . Mr. H. H. Sterling, general manager of the Dairy Company, said the introduction of herd-testing would be ranked with home separation as a definite milestone in the path of progress in the dairying industry—it was a means of obtaining the best results from dairying at the lowest possible price. The directors' recommendation that the charge for herd-testing next season should be 5s per cow up to 75 cows in the herd and 3s for each cow above that number was adopted. The association resolved to affiliate with the Dominion Federation of Group Herd-testing Associations. The calf-marking system in operation was discussed at length and it was decided to proceed with the scheme. Messrs. W. L. Ranstead (Matangi) and A. S. Wyllie (Tekawa) were re-elected directors, and Mr. T. G. Reynolds was appointed auditor.
