WATERSIDE STRIKE.
EFFECT IN QUEENSLAND. SUGAR INDUSTRY CRIPPLED. A. and N.Z. BRISBANE. July 19. The hold-up of shipping at Bowen, caused by the waterside workers refusing duty except under the rotary system of employment, has resulted in the Inkerman mill ceasing the crushing of sugar-cane. All shifts have been paid off. So far only one-sixth of the estimated crop has been crushed. More than 200 farmers are idle and lome thousands of tons of cane are standing over and deteriorating.
