DERELICT EXPLOSIVES.
DENIAL BY CONTRACTORS. NOT BURIED ON FRENCH COAST. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 8.5 p.m.) LONDON. July 16. In connection with a recent statement which appeared in the newspaper L'Oeuvre, to the effect that large sections of the French coast have been used as a dumping ground for explosives from the British war front, the contractors who are responsible for rendering the abaudoned ammunition dump harmless have issued a statement.
They deny that shells from the Somme were buried in the sand 011 the French coast. They also assert that every dump was rendered harmless. Ihis was done under the personal direction of officers of the French Army.
