IMPERIAL CONFERENCE.
POSITION OF CANADA. GOVERNOR-GENERALS' POWERS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, July 18. The Dominions' Office discounts reports cabled from Australia to the effect that the Prime Minister, Mr. S. M. Bruce, will possibly not attend the Imperial Con'erence unless Canada is represented. It is pointed out that Canada will undoubtedly be represented but by whom depends on the Canadian elections. Should Canada find it necessary to tfsk for a postponement of the conference for a week or a fortnight the other Dominions would presumedly concur. It is unofficially stated that should Mr. W. L. Mackenzie King again become Prime Minister he will inevitably raise the question of a Governor-General's prerogative as to the dissolution of Parliament. He would probably have the support of General Hertzog, Prime Minister of South Africa, in which event the whole question of the powers of Governors would be involved, including the Australian memorial in reference to State Governorships.
