COX'S CREEK IMPROVEMENT.

Sir.—l have been waiting for an abler pen than mine to reply to the letter of Mr. A. Francis on the above matter. Mr. Francis, it seems to me, does not realise the great benefit and improvement to the whole district which will result if Mr. Donald's proposals are carried into effect. The whole matter must surely be viewed from all sides and the issue must not be clouded by any minor matters. Mr. Francis complains that the owners of boats would be deprived of the space for storage of their boats during the winter months. Is he not aware that the suggested filling in of the area inside the roadway, by dredging and using the silt from outside, must mean the deepening of the bay, and then it will only be a matter of throwing out an arm to form a short breakwater, when there will be available an. admirable boat harbour, in which provision could be made at very little expense for space for storing boats during the winter. I feel sure that few. if any, of the members of the local crais ing club view the matter in the same light as Mr. Francis, but, on the contrary, are looking forward to the day when a boat harbour for upper harbour craft shall have actually materialised. We must not forget that, in addition, the district will gain a public park and a safe swimming, boating and recreation area. I think that Mr. J. Donald is to be congratulated on the efforts he is putting forth in this direction. L. G. Simpson.
