PIAKO RIVER WHARVES.
PURCHASE NEGOTIATIONS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] MORRINSVILLE, Saturday. At a meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council the chairman, Mr. E. L. Walton, reported that he and Mr. Mayn had interviewed Mr. O. N. Campbell, chief drainage engineer, in regard to the Piako River wharves. The engineer had not agreed to recommend a reduction in price or to hand over a number of the wharves and not others. Mr. Walton had then asked Mr. Campbell to consider three questions. These were;—(l) To reduce the price; (2) to secure legislation giving the County Council power to collect dues on all goods arriving at or shipped from the river; and (3) to put all the wharves in working order. Mr. Campbell was v . considering these questions, and in thq meantime the clerk was ascertaining the position in other places where county councils controlled wharves.
It was agreed to defer further consideration until a reply had been received to the questions.
