SAVING A DOG'S LIFE.
BRAVE COLLIER'S ACT. ♦ A fox terrier which had been entombed in a crevice on the Mynydd Maen Mountain, Monmouthshire (1557 ft.), for over 30 hours, owes its life to the bravery of a young collier named George Eatwell. All through the night a number of colliers dug near the crevice where the dog was last seen. Sixteen feet down they heard a faint cry, and then it was realised that the dog was in the crevice. Mr. Eatwell wriggled through the crevice at the risk of his life, and saw the dog huddled below. He could not drop down, but as he was longest in reach he volunteered, if someone would hold his feet, to slide down head first. This he did, amid, falling rock and water, and dragged the dog up.
