TAIHAPE NOTES.
DOG TRIALS AT MATARX3A. [BY telegraph.—own correspondent.] TAIHAPB. Tuesday. Arrangements are well in hand for the sheep-dog trials at Mataroa toward the end of this month and a successful meeting should eventuate. It is expected that competing dogs will come from all parts of the Dominion. Included in the prizes is a 100-guinea gold cup, but the event to which this trophy will be allocated has not yet been decided upon. A railway employee from Ohingaiti, Charleu Clent, was admitted to the Taihape Hospital suffering from an injury/to his leg sustained while playing football This winter is stated to be the best that has been experienced in the Koeke district for over 20 years. Stock is doing well and 1 there is abundant feed.
At the last meeting of the Taihape Literary Circle a very interesting paper on "John Masefield," the modern poet, was read by the Rev. John Reid. Mr. W. E. Hird presided and there was a fair attendance of members of the circle. Mr. H. Quarterman, of Mataroa, who was successful at the North Island clay bird shooting championship meeting, has always put up a creditable performance in this class of sport, but his recent success places him well to the fore and he is to be congratulated on his fine display.
