WANGANUI NOTES.

SPRING MEETING PROSPECTS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WANGANUI, Tuesday. The Wanganui Jockey Club's Spring Meeting having been definitely fixed for September 9 and 11, there is now only some Beven weeks to go before the fixture comes round. There appears every reason to anticipate that the field for the Wanganui Guineas will be a strong one in point of quality, if not also numerically. It is regarded as certain that Commendation will be a runner if ho goes on all right. From ail accounts the son of Limond is getting through his preparation in a very satisfactory manner. Lysander is also making excellent progress and he promises to strip in rare fettle when Guineas day comes round in September. Great interest will be taken in the meeting of Commendation and.Lysander in the first classic event contest of the new season. There will be several other good ones to bo reckoned with in the Guineas, and there is some reason to offer the prediction that it will furnish the most noteworthy contest that has eventuated for many years. Civility continues to hit out in her usual free styie. and the way she js moving suggests that another month will see her at her very best. She has yet to prove her ability to win at a mile, but .in most of her races she has been galloping strongly at the end. It is not intended to send the daughter of Elyaian—Civilisation to Riccarton if she is given more than what is considered a reasonable weight in «he Winter Cup. Her owners do not mean to overtax her, as there will be plenty of shorter races for her later on. H Mask shows that he has. improved as much in pace as he has done in appearance he will win some good races next season. W. Rayner has kept the bay son pf Limond in easy work all through the winter, and this has agreed with the gelding, as he has filled .out nicely. He should be ready early in the season. Alarm is in steady work, and this gelding should prove eaual to winning a race or .two in the spring. He has fined down since last raced and is hitting out freely on the tr Vaudeville is coming along nicely and there are not wanting signs that the son of Limond—Farce will prove a useful sort next season. The long spell the gelding had appears to have done him a lot of good and he should get on the winning list after he has had a race or two. It is more than likely that only one of Mr G. M. Currie's youngsters will oe seen out at Wangifnui in the spring, but later on W Rayner will probably take the three— Thaw. Covent Garden, and Adamans—to Auckland.
