LICENSING COMMITTEE.
MR. A, THOMPSON RESIGNS. QUESTION OF A SUCCESSOR. * A letter from Mr. Alfred Thompson resigning his seat on the Auckland Licensing Committee has been received by Mr. E. C. Cutten, chairman of the committee. The appointment of a successor to Mr. Thompson is in the hands of the Minister of Justice. He has the power to appoint the. person who headed the list of defeated candidates at the election in March, which in this case is Mr. W. L. Casey. On the other hand he can consult the different interests to see if they suggest, anyone else suitable, or he can make an appointment of his own.
Mr., Thompson was a member of the Licensing Committee for three years prior to the elections in March, when he "was re-elected. The new member chosen by the Minister of Justice will hold office for three years from last March.
