TO-DAY'S WEATHER. HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. H. M. Vincent hist evening :—Further unsettled weather is indicated, with heavy rain. . Rivers flooded. Easterly to south-easterly winds, strong to heavy gale, veering to south, then decreasing. Seas very heavy. The centre of a severe cyclonic storm is located in the north, the barometric gradient being very steep. Conditions are expected to improve shortly, as the disturbance passes eastward. Barometer, midnight, 29.45 in.; unsteady. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows : —Present indications aro for east to south-east winds, strong to gale, northward of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, and moderate- to strong southerlies elsewhere; weather unsettled and cloudy generally. Heavy rain is probable, with flooded riverp in tho northern and east coast districts. The barometer is falling, but should rise again soon. RAINFALL RECORD.
