CORNED BEEF WANTED.
AUSTRALIAN WORKERS' PLEA.
TREATMENT AS HUMAN BEINGS. Australian and iS'.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 8.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 5. At the first public sitting of the Industrial Commission for the purpose of fixing the basic wage, Mr. Connington, who attended as the representative of, the majority of the trades unions, asked the commission to treat human beings as human beings. They were not machines and he urged, that they could not live on rice when they had a feeling that they would like to eat cornod beef. This request was made in view of the fact that the commission will also determine the standard of living to be fixed.
