TAURANGA HARBOUR BOARD
SYSTEM OF REPRESENTATION. OPPOSITION TO CHANGE. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TE PUKE. Friday. The Minister of Mines and Marine, Hon. G. J. Anderson, was met at Te Puke to-day by a representative gathering of townspeople and farmers regarding a request made to hini by the Tauranga Borough Council and the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce, that additional representation be given to the Tauranga Borough in. the Harbour Board. It was pointed out to the Minister that a new wharf was now being erected at Tauranga and that the loan proposals carried made provision for a wharf at The Mount. To change the system of representation at present it was urged would be unfair. The Minister was advised to leave, well alone. It was also mentioned that while no form of representation was perfect the appointment of a commission to take evidence throughout the harbour district Avould be costly. The Minister promised to consider the matter.
