GOLD WITHIN REACH.
WHAT MODERN DREDGES DO. A CONTRAST TO EARLY DAYS. Big deposits -were the goal of the gold-seeker in the old days. Furthermore, even these deposits had to be comparatively close to the surface as the cold dredges of that period were by no means the powerful ones they are to-day. It will thus he seen that the 1898 c.redge, like others of its day, was not nearly powerful enough to reach down sufficiently deep to touch the big deposits of gold at the bottom of the Shotover River, nor was it sufficiently largo to handle the volume ot material to pay big dividends from the fine cold which is spread throughout the gravel wash and banks of this river. It has taken the modern dredge to show what can bo done by handling suitable "wash " in quantities. A good example of this is a well-known dredge, financed by overseas capital, which has opened our eyes to the profits obtainable from fine gold when a sufficiently large volume of material is treated. A dredge of this tvpo will be erected by the " Golden Terrace," though, by having much easier ground to work, it will not require the same amount of capital outlav. From " fine " gold alone it is estimated that the "Golden Terrace" dredge will annually earn at least £64,800. though expert authorities consider that this amount will bo easily doubled. Just what phenomenal dividends will be paid in addition when the dredge gets down to the rich deposits are hard to estimate. We have the wonderful records of past vears of gold from comparatively high levels —who can say just how great the records will be when the very bottom of the river is worked? The Golden Terrace Extended Gold Dredging Company,, Ltd., has already, gone to allotment, and it will be appreciated that once dredging begins, and the gold starts to come in, shares that are sold at par to-day will double and treble in value, Further particulars, prospectuses and share application forms are obtainable by calling on the chief brokers, K. Sco{t Gandy and Co., 23, Shorts Buildings (opposite Bank of Australasia), Queen , Street, Auckland. If you live out of town, write- in to-day.— Advt.
